Scott opens the door for him and steps back so he can come inside.

"I appreciate the lack of expectation - and you're early. Do you want the alcohol or would you rather have coffee?"

"I'd love some booze," he says, because he can trust that anything Scott gives him won't be drugged.

"How are you?" There's a note in his voice that isn't just a casual greeting, but makes it a sincere ask.

He goes to an upper cabinet and pulls down a bottle of good whiskey he liberated from Scratch, and a couple of glasses.

"I'm fine." It's a real answer; he's functionally operational and his stress level is slightly lower than it's been lately. "If people could stop being idiots I'd be better. How's the contract search going?"

"Slowly. Slower than I'd like. Everyone I think I'd like being paired with are people who don't deserve the messes I usually get into." But it might just have to go that way, anyway. "Who's been an idiot lately?"

"Everyone, including me," he says, in a fairly dismissive tone. He pours and hands a glass to Paul. "It isn't important. What is is that you're hitting the control mechanism of the place and I'm not going to pretend to have good solutions."

"Most solutions are just 'better'." The lesser of two evils, as they say. "I can handle the contract part. If I have to be the asshole in the situation, I will be, as long as I can keep working on something more important."

He sips, gives it an appreciative look and a smile. Definitely better than what he's used to.

"What's your take on the SLUT Center?"

"That I would prefer to avoid being anywhere even remotely clinical, particularly when combined with sex," he says, dryly.

Elaborate, Paul.

"You said the prisons were the symbol you'd go after. Why not the SLUT Center?" What makes one the bigger target?

"Accessiblity, fortification, location, and limiting the amount of fallout to participants and uninvolved parties."

What.

The guy asked a question.

"I'll give you the fortifications." He's considered that. "But I can't see the fallout being any better now matter which target is used."

"It may actually not be much better but if they can't use easy confinement the fall out will at least be more informative."

Probably.

They're not going to 'win' much here, either way, he doesn't think

Informative. He raises an eyebrow, decides that's a worthwhile goal, nods.

"Well, I'm willing to be used however you can use me."

The apocalypse hasn't broken his habit of just cutting to the chase.

"Convenient." He half toasts toward Paul. "You're already on the list."

He grins and takes another sip. "Out of curiosity how did I manage that?"

"By being from a shitshow of a world and openly interested in acts of violence against authority here."

He has his eyebrows up in a bemused, but kind of fond, way.

"At least my world is good for something." Helping him befriend and join a terrorist seems like a nice side effect of everything he's had to do to make it this far.

"You would've been fun to follow back home."

"I think if you believe that you haven't run face first into the asshole I become when I'm really leading." THere's a bit of a smile there, though. "I'm good at both parts of that, though."

"I've never met a good leader who wasn't called worse than 'asshole'," he shrugs, grinning a little. "What, do you yell a lot?"
