He grins and takes another sip. "Out of curiosity how did I manage that?"

"By being from a shitshow of a world and openly interested in acts of violence against authority here."

He has his eyebrows up in a bemused, but kind of fond, way.

"At least my world is good for something." Helping him befriend and join a terrorist seems like a nice side effect of everything he's had to do to make it this far.

"I think if you believe that you haven't run face first into the asshole I become when I'm really leading." THere's a bit of a smile there, though. "I'm good at both parts of that, though."

"I've never met a good leader who wasn't called worse than 'asshole'," he shrugs, grinning a little. "What, do you yell a lot?"

That actually makes him laugh, albeit softly. "No. I use people and make uncomfortable decisions no one else wants to live with." A pause, because honestly - "I lead."

"If I disagree, I'll speak up. But I'll also make sure the mission gets done. I may not like every decision that gets made but I trust your instincts and that's why I'll follow you."

Look. This is relevant. He's more interested in building resources than being used to self-destruct.

"You've done this at home. And you did it even though your people are outnumbered and you've been surrounded by anti mutant sentiment all your life." So he likes the tenacity. "But you aren't rushing, either. And you aren't targeting without some real thought into it. You're open to people joining you--that's a red flag when someone isn't."

"Yeah. Of a cult," he says, dryly, but overall satisfied. "You should probably talk to some of the people here who know me at home if you haven't already. Otherwise, welcome aboard. I'll let you know when I can use you again. It's likely to be a little while."
