K isn't letting himself think much; it's easy to do, when there is so much trauma around him, so many people to worry about. Guilt to make any panic or uncertainty he might feel heavy enough to swallow back down before it can take hold because maybe he could have prevented some of this if he'd only been there. He's built to protect, but he tried pushing back against the truest pillars of himself, and now here they are.

He's been texting Jesus updates on V periodically, and the last one was that he's finally sleeping restfully, which leaves K to shower himself and set to puzzling about in the kitchen - quietly - with Nibbles draped over one shoulder, purring, and an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth.

She woke up hard an hour ago and she knows by now she's not going to get back to sleep. She also knows that Jesus curled up beside her, head leaned against her good shoulder, is awake, too, even though his eyes are closed. She knows the difference, and she's quiet just in case he manages to actually drift off, but she doubts he has.

She's staring through the dark room at a box she can just see on a shelf. She's listening to her ears ring in the silence, and running the fingers of her good hand idly through the ends of Jesus's hair over and over again, and finally she asks, "What does the collar mean for you?"

[ Maybe a half hour after Jesus heads off to meet with Midnighter, Drake sees their conversation arranging it, as he's reading the finder. He isn't prepared for the cold rush of panic that grips him when he realizes Jesus must be with this guy right now... hopefully the other man knows what he was possibly walking into? He can handle himself, Drake reminds himself sternly, but still.

Still. What if it goes wrong? Is it overbearing of him to just -- check in? What if Jesus didn't know..?

One little message won't hurt, Drake decides, and he goes for text even though he knows Jesus prefers voice just in case he's still with Midnighter and everything's fine. It wouldn't do to tip him off, and Drake doesn't trust himself to sound casual at the moment. ]

Hey Jesus, give me a call when you're free?

A few days before Christmas Jesus will find a a ridiculous campy card slipped under his apartment door with a voucher inside informing him of his new year long subscription to one of Duplicity's premier underwear of the month clubs. The card reads:

Jesus,
I heard something bout how your birthday's on the 25th?? Can't believe you didn't say anything! ;) Anyway, this isn't exactly me saying you should start wearing skivvies, but they do have some fun novelty stuff. Happy Wintersday!

The first night K sees the lights, it's because he's pulled the straw for front door security at Scratch and that means being posted outside. He is, it must be said, more than a little awestruck so he doesn't even notice that he can't move - and he's alone, so he doesn't notice either that there are any other effects.

So he goes looking for them the second time, stepping out from Marked and standing peaceably just to one side of the door, hands in his pocket, eyes locked on the shimmering colors in the sky.

He's never seen anything like it, and this is the thought - warm and delighted - that snakes out of his mind to anyone else nearby also caught under it.
